The new ViewSonic monitors (model VG2253) that are installed with the new computers have a built-in speaker.  To control which device (computer, monitor speaker, or your own speakers/headset) plays audio, do the following:

1. Click the Speakers icon in the System Tray (lower right-hand corner near the clock).

2. Above the volume control, the playback device is specified.  To change it, click the small up-arrow on the right.

3. Choose whichever playback device you like.  'Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)' means the playback device is the speaker jack on the front of your computer (usually attached to the back of the monitor). You can plug in a headset or headphones here.

Note:

  • If you plugged in a headset or external speakers and you don't hear any audio after choosing that option for the playback device, you probably did not plug them in securely enough.  When external speakers are securely plugged in, you should see an Information notice in the bottom right of your screen specifying 'You just plugged a device into the audio jack.'
